Chuck Fishman: Polish Jews Limited Edition Portfolio

Polish Jews: The Final Chapter

Limited-Edition Printed Portfolio

The portfolio of 24 photographs taken in Poland in 1975 can now be obtained for the first time as an exclusive boxed set.  Only a limited edition of 15 boxed portfolios and one artist's proof are available.

CONTENTS

This portfolio contains 24 contemporary, archival silver gelatin prints from the original film negatives.  Each photograph is hand printed on 11 x 14 inch (27.9  x 35.6 cm) baryta paper, toned with selenium.  Signed and numbered prints are mounted on 16 x 20 inch (40.6 x 50.8 cm) 4 ply, acid-free museum board with matching hinged overmat.

  • The photographs are housed in a custom-made, two-piece archival wooden box covered in woven black bookcloth with the title and name debossed on the cover (see photo).
  • Thumbnail sized images, with individual captions of each photograph printed on 16 x 20 inch (40.6 x 50.8 cm) archival board (see photo), a certificate of authenticity with portfolio number, and a history of Polish Jewry (as written in 1975) are also contained within the box (see history).
  • Included with the boxed set is an out-of-print copy of Polish Jews: The Final Chapter, published by McGraw-Hill in 1977 (see photo).  For museums and institutions of higher learning, a complete set of captioned, newly printed contact sheets of the entire 1975 project is also included.  These contact sheets contain many pictures not contained in the portfolio and book, inclusive of former synagogues, cemeteries and sites of Jewish interest in the large cities of Warsaw, Krakow, Lodz, Wroclaw, Lublin and Czestochowa, and in many small towns and villages throughout Galicia, where there had once been a vital Jewish presence.  These contact sheets may be scanned for historical, educational, and archival purposes.

SUGGESTIONS FOR USE

The photographs may be organized as a self-contained, freestanding exhibit as well as integrated into exhibitions encompassing such themes as the Diaspora; post-Holocaust, Eastern European Jewish life; and culture/heritage from the Communist/Iron Curtain era.
